Every spring our natural nesting instinct emerges and suddenly it’s time to scour every nook and cranny of our home.  As you turn to your arsenal of cleaning products that promises to leave your space clean and fresh, keep in mind that there are solutions using essential oils that are just as effective and safe.

There are many reasons to go natural with your cleaning products, including concerns over being exposed to unnecessary toxic chemicals.  Essential oils are a great way to clean without the dangerous side effects.

It will surprise you how easy it is to concoct an inexpensive non-toxic cleaner from ingredients you already have.  So…ditch the rubber gloves and surgical mask and clean your home using some of these simple recipes:

All Purpose Spray:

1/4 cup vinegar

2 cups water

30 drops Protective Blend essential oil

1 teaspoon Borax

Add ingredients to a spray bottle, then shake thoroughly.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner:

Add these ingredients directly to a partially drained bowl:

1/2 cup of baking soda

10 drops of Melaleuca essential oil

1/4 cup of vinegar

As it reacts, scrub the toilet.  This combination is intended for one use at a time.

TIP: For serious stains or rust, empty water out of bowl and scrub with a wet pumice stone.  When wet, the stone will not scratch porcelain.

Window Cleaner:

1/8 cup vinegar

1 cup water

10-15 drops of Lemon essential oil

Mix ingredients in a spray bottle.  Shake and apply wipe clean.
